Bikes for Kids Wisconsin launches the Spring Forward Fund
We are gearing up for our first annual Spring Forward Fund to empower youth through bicycles! This fundraiser will help us provide thousands of bikes to people in need throughout the state of Wisconsin through our Bike Giveaway Program and our Bike to Work Program. Through a $5,000 match, your donation will be doubled for twice the impact!
Bikes for Kids has distributed over 12,600 bicycles to people in need in Dane County and beyond since 2017. Working in transportation equity is costly because vehicles are expensive, need continual maintenance, and parts. The cost of these programs when fully funded are $280,000 each year to reduce transportation barriers for many.
Here is our our distribution process works: New bicycles owners are identified through our distribution partners which include over 220 501(c)(3) organizations and public schools in Wisconsin. They identify the people most in need and those who are facing serious transportation barriers preventing them from attending school or work regularly.
Expenses for this program include the cost for bike parts, tool purchases, the necessary costs to collect, refurbish, and store approximately 2,500 bikes annually, as well as operational expenses to support the 12,000 sq. ft. bike center, professional staff, and their robust volunteer network.
Bikes for Kids Wisconsin also offers the Bike Mechanics Youth Development Program in partnership with the Madison School & Recreation (MSCR), the Bike to Work Program, low-cost repair services and used bike sales for the public, and the Community Bike Disposal Program.
Individuals are encouraged to share on their social media pages to help us spread the word. Starting a fundraiser on your Facebook Profile is a great option. 100% of funding comes straight to us.
