Help us giveaway 1,400 bikes to people in need!

Each year, we work towards a major goal of giving away 2,000 bikes to people in need. Our annual bike giveaway events happen in April and May just in time for riding season.

Bike Giveaway dates are: April 27 & May 4, 2024.

This is where the magic happens! It’s where the hard work of hundreds of volunteers get to reap the rewards of their work—seeing the smiles on kids’ faces when they get their new bikes.

*Please note that these events are not open to the public. All bikes have been pre-registered through 38 501c3’s and public schools. View the organizations receiving bikes.

Would you like to be involved? Three hour shifts are available for each giveaway event. It’s a bustling endeavor that requires a lot of movement and energy. Please note that events happen rain or shine. We will only cancel if it is dangerous to be outdoors. The rain date is the following day (Sunday). If you want to help but aren’t sure if you’ll be free, please just show up if you can. If you sign up, we will be relying on you to be there.

SHIFTS ARE: 10:30am-2pm • 1:30-4:30pm

The following stations are available for volunteers:

  1. Registration Tables (4 needed) – this is a public facing role checking in bike recipients and answering questions from the public. The ideal people in this role are smiley, warm and welcoming people who can handle a fast-paced environment with long lines of excited kids and families. Bilingual volunteers are needed.
  2. Helmet Fitters (6 needed) – this station requires experienced volunteers who know how to fit helmets prior to arriving. You’ll be directly working with children who are excited to get their helmet on so they can go bike shopping.
  3. Bike Runners (8 needed) – this role requires people who love walking and running and are ready to get some miles in. High schoolers always work well in this role. You’ll be running bikes from the shop to the parking lot so there is an ample supply for our bike shoppers. This role does not require interfacing with the public.
  4. Bike Shoppers (8 needed) – this role helps our bike recipients find bikes that fit them well and guides them to select a bike that works best for their daily riding needs. Bike fitting and basic bike knowledge is required. Bilingual (Spanish/English) volunteers are needed for this role.
  5. Lights & Locks Station (2 needed) – all kids age 12+ will receive a lock and a set of lights. You’ll help them understand the laws requiring them to have lights at night and you will show them how to use each. You’ll likely need to show them how to use a combo lock and how to set it up. This is a public facing role.
  6. Facilitators and Traffic Directors (2 needed) – this is a public facing role where you’ll answer questions from the public and help them find what they are looking for. You’ll also be sure to not let cars drive within the bike giveaway boundary.
