Announcing the 2024 Cohort of Bike Recipient Organizations!

It’s that time of year again where we collaborate with a group of Bike Distribution Partners who help us find homes for roughly 2,000 bicycles we have collected, refurbished, and fully tuned up through the fall and winter months. In 2023, we distributed 2,051 bicycles and hit an astounding milestone of 10,000 bikes distributed through November 2023!

These 36 Distribution Partners are other 501c3 organizations and public schools—they determine who our recipients are each year. This system works well because they know who is experiencing the most need. They also collect numerous data points for us on who is receiving bikes each year.

We could not do this work without their help! To date, Bikes for Kids has supported 173 other nonprofit organizations and schools in Dane County and southern Wisconsin. So when you help us, you’re helping all of these organizations too.

Congratulations and THANK YOU to each of your for your partnership! We could not do this work without your collaboration.

The Bike Giveaway program is cost and volunteer intensive so we would like to give a BIG shout out for the hundreds of volunteer hours spent putting smiles on the faces of kids and their families. If you’d like to be a part of it, you can sign up under the Get Involved menu. Corporate teams of 6-12 people are always welcome! We host corporate groups and volunteer teams on Friday afternoons. Send us an email to sign up your group.

Although bikes are donated to us, it’s not free for us to give them away. They are vehicles and each one must be fully tuned and inspected by a paid professional. Plus, the cost of parts and supplies to refurbish over 2,000 bikes and provide the accessories for people to ride safely and efficiently costs us $270,000 each year. Can you support someone getting a bike this year?

Bike Giveaway dates are: 4/27; 5/4. Please note, Bike Giveaway events are not open to the public because all recipients have been pre-selected to ensure that bikes are fully serviced for them.

It requires 40 volunteers (120 total) at each giveaway event and translators are always in need. Please save a date, find a group of friends or colleagues, or a Spanish club that can volunteer at these amazing events!
